Ray and Charles Eames sought to improve the living standard of the world through their design aesthetic. From the Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman to their House Designs, they achieved that goal. Their house designs were simple and functional, using materials such as steel, redwood, and glass. They believed in creating a simple, comfortable, and beautiful living space for their customers. Their designs had an art deco style, emphasizing the streamlined and modern look. Ray and Charles first designed the Case Study House #8 in 1949, which was a single family residence with steel framed windows, a flat roof, and a large outdoor deck. The casework and furniture designs of this house drew inspiration from the Eames’s modernist furniture designs, as well as the Japanese aesthetic.
The Eames House is one of their most iconic works. Built in 1949, it was an experimental piece with a box like structure and concrete walls. The house had a large open plan living area and a partially covered terrace, with views of the Hollywood hills. It also featured a carport, and the furniture was made from the couple’s own designs. The house has since been given historic status, and is often used as a film set.Ray and Charles Eames House Designs
